Trauma, Anxiety & ADHD Counselling in Toronto

Counselling Services: Services
Cozy Seating Area
Minimalist Interior Window

Many people in Toronto reach out for counselling when they feel overwhelmed, stuck, emotionally exhausted, or uncertain about how to move forward.

At Better Days Counselling, I offer a safe and supportive space where you can slow down, feel understood, and explore what’s happening inside you with steadiness and care.

I’m Joy Choi,
a Registered Social Worker and Canadian Certified Counsellor.

Many of the clients I work with struggle with perfectionism, people-pleasing, emotional overwhelm, anxiety, trauma, or challenges related to ADHD and neurodivergence.

My practice is shaped by specialized training in:

•   EMDR Therapy for Trauma & PTSD

•   Anxiety & Emotional Overwhelm

•   Depression & Mood Disorders

•   Emotional Regulation

•   Neurodiversity-Affirming Support

•   Anger & Stress Management

•   Self-Compassion & Inner Healing

I work with adolescents and adults, using evidence-based, trauma-informed approaches to help clients feel more regulated, connected, and supported, both emotionally and somatically.

Many people who reach out for the first time have questions about what therapy is like and what to expect. Here are some of the most common ones:

How does therapy work?

Sessions are typically 50 minutes. In the first meeting, we explore what brings you in, what you hope to change, and what pace feels comfortable. Ongoing sessions integrate emotions, body awareness, and thought patterns in a way that fits your needs.

What approaches do you use?

I use evidence-based modalities including EMDR, somatic therapy, attachment-based work, and DBT-informed skills. These approaches support trauma healing, emotional regulation, nervous system regulation, and lasting personal growth.

What are your fees? Do you accept insurance?

Session fees, cancellation policies, receipts, and insurance details are explained clearly before we begin. Most extended health plans cover services provided by a Registered Social Worker or Canadian Certified Counsellor.

How long does therapy take?

It depends on your goals. Short-term concerns may take only a few sessions. Trauma recovery, emotional regulation, and long-standing patterns often require more time and consistency. Many clients begin with weekly or bi-weekly sessions.

How do we track progress?

We check in regularly about your goals and how you're feeling in daily life. Most importantly, we pay attention to changes in your emotions, body responses, relationships, and overall sense of well-being.

Is online therapy as effective as in person therapy?

Yes. Research consistently shows that online therapy can be just as effective as in person sessions for many concerns, including anxiety, depression, trauma, and emotional regulation. What matters most is the quality of the therapeutic relationship and whether you feel safe, connected, and supported. Online sessions also offer additional benefits such as flexibility, comfort, and accessibility—especially if you prefer being in your own space.
